This department publishes brief news articles, announcements and guest editorials on current mathematics education issues that stimulate the interest of TCM readers and cause them to think about an issue or consider a specific viewpoint about some aspect of mathematics education.

Nicole Wessman-Enzinger, firstname.lastname@example.org, is a Ph.D. candidate in mathematics education at Illinois State University. She is interested in how children think about negative integers and the contexts they use to make sense of them.
Laura Bofferding, email@example.com, is an assistant professor of mathematics education at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She investigates young children's numerical reasoning, especially in relation to integers, and is interested in the identification and discussion of children's diverse solution strategies in lessons.
