  • 1 Carrillo Elementary School, Carlsbad, CA 92009

“Math by the Month” activities are designed to engage students to think as mathematicians do. Students may work on the activities individually or in small groups, or the whole class may use them as problems of the week. No solutions are suggested, so students look to themselves for mathematical justification and develop confidence to validate their work. A variety of weather conditions are experienced every day by students all over the country. The activities this month give students opportunities to investigate weather conditions that involve reading and recording temperatures, graphing, making charts, solving word problems, and working with numbers.
