Michelle Stephan,, is an associate professor of mathematics education at the University of North Carolina in Charlotte. She is interested in promoting access and equity in mathematics classrooms through engaging students in discourse. In particular, she and her co-author have worked together for almost a decade developing inquiry classroom environments for students with disabilities in co-taught classrooms.

Jennifer Smith,, was a special educator for sixteen years and is currently an instructional coach in Seminole County, Florida. She and her co-author have published several articles that examine the practices of using a student-centered approach for teaching mathematics to students with disabilities.
