Principles for using groups in linguistically diverse classrooms are illustrated with a task about measurement and proportionality.

William Zahner, wzahner@bu.edu, is an assistant professor of math education at Boston University. His research examines how students learn core concepts in algebra through engaging in peer discussions, and he enjoys sharing his work in presentations for teachers as well as researchers. Zahner taught school mathematics for six years, including three years in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia.
