Use popular culture to draw students' attention to mathematical topics.
Elana Reiser, ereiser@sjcny.edu, has been teaching mathematics at St. Joseph's College on Long Island for thirteen years. She has a BA and an MA in mathematics from Binghamton University and an EdD in math education from Teachers College, Columbia University. She wrote Teaching Mathematics Using Popular Culture as a way to combine her loves of mathematics and movies and television shows and will speak on the topic on Nov. 2 at the NCTM regional conference in Philadelphia.
