The 3rd International Congress on Mathematical Education attracted over 2,500 people to Karlsruhe, West Germany—substantially more than attended the First, at Lyons, France, in 1969, or the Second, in Exeter, England, in 1972. (The second Congress provided the substance of the book Developments in Mathematical Education, edited by A. G. Howson, Cambridge University Press, 1973.)
