As teachers of mathematics, we want to help our students to develop a solid understanding of mathematical concepts and to become good problem solvers who are confident of their ability to do mathematics. Research on students' beliefs about mathematics reveals a set of mathematical beliefs, “math myths,” that can be counterproductive to achieving these goals. This article is a report on math myths believed by a group of preservice teachers. However. as you read, you might want to ask yourself these questions: Which of these myths do I believe? Which of them could my teaching methods convey to my students?
